Gift Suggestions For Retirement

Gift baskets for retirement, invest for retirement, savings for retirement

Retirement is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It is the established practice of the company where the individual is working to organize a party for the long-serving individual as an indication of respect and farewell for him. While the memories of the retirement get-together will linger in the mind of the retiree forever, a thoughtfully presented retirement gift is bound to reinforce these memories. A retirement gift can be something expensive or rare, precious and worthwhile. It can also be something very personal; something that can put into tangible form the emotions of the employer and the employee.

Since a retirement is not an everyday affair and a retirement gift is something given only once; careful thought has to be given to the purchase of the object so that it remains memorable. It should also last for a life time of the retiree. Usually companies have a gift article that is given to all retiring employees, but the colleagues of the individual can always get together, pool their resources and select something perfect for the retiree. Undoubtedly, the gift will vary according to the gender of the retiree. Even though choosing such a gift is seemingly a daunting task, actually it is far more easier than choosing a birthday or an anniversary gift. The advantage lies in the fact that the person is well known to all the others, his likes and dislikes and preferences are known and he is around the vicinity of 60 years of age. This helps in giving a basic idea as to what to gift a man or woman.

As stated above a retirement gift can be pricey, exquisite, or personal. One such gift is a watch. An exquisitely crafted watch shows the esteem that the company had on its employee and the value it had on his/her long years of dedicated service. Many of the bigger companies actually offer wristwatches or timepieces as gifts. And since watches are worn almost throughout the day, the wearer is bound to remember and cherish the gift as a thoughtful token to his work.

Other than expensive watches or timepieces as gifts, other personal effects like apparel also make wonderful retirement gifts. It could be a nicely tailored suit or a jacket of good quality. An expensive gold ring or a chain is also a thoughtful retirement gift as it is also likely that the receiver will wear it daily.

A retiree is sure to have served the company for a good number of years. As such, retirement is the time that the company can show its respect and admiration for the dedicated service that the person put in. As a reward, the company could gift the employee some of the company’s stocks or bonds. This gift will not only provide security to the employee but also a mark of proof that the company has grown due to the toils of their employees over the years.

Everyone has some sort of hobby. And during the years of service, the individual would not have had much time to devote to his or her hobby. Post-retirement is the ideal time for developing one’s hobby and if the person has served the company for a very long time, the company is bound to have an idea of the retiree’s hobby. A gift that will give impetus to that hobby would also be an ideal retirement gift. For instance, suppose the retiree has a passion for fishing; a beautifully crafted fishing rod would be an apt retirement gift. As another example, employees having the habit of reading could be given an exquisitely bound set of books of his or her author.

Another gift idea would be send the retiree and his or her family on an all-expense paid extended vacation to a particular place that the retiree would have liked to go but could not due to the pressures of work.

Some careful thinking can easily bring to mind a myriad of ideas for gifting retiring employees that will have them reminiscing of the time they spent working in the company of friends and colleagues who presented him of the gift.
